Egypt Postal Code
Half the nineties, I traveled, together with my girl friend to Hurgada in Egypt. The first night in the hotel we were approached by 2 animators. They asked us if we wanted to go out with them. Every single night during our stay they asked us the same question, we refused every time again, until the last night of our stay.

Mubarak regime[ edit ] During most of the rule of Hosni Mubarak , the Egyptian government did not support LGBT-rights legislation at home and objected to attempts, starting in the s, to have the United Nations include LGBT-rights within its human rights mission. While the Mubarak regime did not support LGBT rights, it did not enact an obvious ban on homosexuality or cross-dressing in the criminal code.
Criminal sanctions against gay and bisexual men tended to arise not from the penal code itself, but from a supplemental law, enacted in , to combat prostitution. The law against prostitution also bans “debauchery”, even if the act did not involve trafficking or prostitution. Egyptian court’s interpreted the ban on debauchery to criminalize homosexual relations between consenting adults.
Repeat offenders of the law can face even harsher punishment for what the law views as “habitual debauchery”. In addition to the law on prostitution, other public morality or order-based laws gave the police and judges significant leeway to jail or fine gay and bisexual men. While arrests had been periodically occurring under these laws for decades, a more systematic crackdown appeared to have begun in the early part of the twenty-first century.
Beginning in , under Hosni Mubarak , these laws were used to engage in a more sophisticated and systematic crackdown on gay or bisexual men, or indeed anyone deemed by the government to be supportive of LGBT rights. In , police arrested an Egyptian gay couple and charged them with, “violation of honor by threat” and “practising immoral and indecent behavior”. Their lawyer asked that the charges be dropped because homosexuality was not a crime, but the judge refused on the grounds that two men had in fact “offended” religious and moral standards.

It is a hard fight. It’s extremely difficult, day after day, when you face people and say, “If Sharia law is taken to its logic this is what things are going to look like” and you come across people who say, “You got it .
The agreement is the second phase of a initiative and is part of the MCIT’s strategy of increasing ICT use throughout Egypt, focusing on socio-economically disadvantaged communities. For example, Vodafone Egypt , which has 15 million subscribers, announced in August that it will buy a majority share in Sarmady Communications Sarcom , an online and mobile content provider. The move was widely seen as part of a wider strategy to dominate Egypt’s Internet market by providing both Internet service and content to customers.
Telecom Egypt leases parts of its network to other Egyptian mobile operators, who use it to provide calls between mobile to fixed-line phones, as well as international calls. In the government announced it would sell a second fixed-line license, ending Telecom Egypt’s monopoly, but plans to do so have repeatedly been delayed. Egypt had more than , ADSL lines by the end of , 75 percent of which are residential.
The service was offered in select central offices in big cities such as Cairo and Alexandria and gradually spread to cover more Governorates of Egypt. Seven companies own the infrastructure and they are called class A ISPs: Broadband connections in Egypt vary in quality. The quality depends on the distance from the central loop office, the presence of the ISP in that local loop, and the quality of the copper telephone line on which the broadband connection is carried.
Internationally, Egypt is currently served with three international submarine cables. Internet exchange points[ edit ] Egypt has two Internet exchange points:

A multiple entry visa is also obtainable for 60 USD. There are other websites purporting to offer electronic visas, some of which reportedly charge double the official price, but this is the only official Government of Egypt portal for this service. Egyptian immigration officials occasionally have denied entry to travelers without explanation.
Muslim] who was slain in battle was sure to go to Paradise. He said, also, that the man who was the first to board a vessel had one slave over and above his share, and that when they sprang to the deck of an enemy’s ship, every sailor held a dagger in each hand and a third in his mouth; which usually struck such terror into the foe that they cried out for quarter at once.
It is a hard fight. It’s extremely difficult, day after day, when you face people and say, “If Sharia law is taken to its logic this is what things are going to look like” and you come across people who say, “You got it all wrong. I wasn’t used to arguing with vice presidents. People who are viewed as “insulting” Islam are regularly threatened with violence, including death. This happens inside and outside Islamic countries, occurring in the form of legal sanctions in the former, with efforts to institutionalize such prohibitions everywhere, so that Islam could not be criticized even, for instance, in the United States.
Yet most of the genuine insults to Islam these days come from Muslims themselves. If anyone’s purpose was to discredit Islam by vicious actions done in its name, there is now abundant evidence that this is the program of many Muslims, including several internationally recognized Islamic states. In April , the radical Islamic group in Nigeria, Boko Haram “Education is forbidden” kidnapped girls out of a government school in the north of the country.
The leader of the group, Abubakar Shekau, subsequently asserted, in a videotaped message, that the girls were now slaves and would be sold as slaves. This must be cold comfort for the anti-American ideologues who want to convey the impression that slavery was invented in America and was a unique evil imposed by white people on Africans, and that one of the worst and most unforgivable things about slavery was sexual expoitation.
Now Abubakar Shekau openly proclaims slavery and sexual slavery part of the program of Islamic revival, and he is correct in terms of traditional Islamic law, where slaves are indeed the sexual property of their owners.

Section 2 4 The Greeks in Egypt. Introduction The direct influence of Ancient Egyptian literature on Archaic Greece has never been fully acknowledged. Greek philosophy in particular of the Classical Period has -especially since the Renaissance- been understood as an excellent standard sprung out of the genius of the Greeks, the Greek miracle.
The Origin of Philosophy: The Attributes of Mythic/ Mythopoeic Thought. The pioneering work on this subject was The Intellectual Adventure of Ancient Man, An Essay on Speculative Thought in the Ancient Near East by Henri Frankfort, H.A. Frankfort, John A. Wilson, Thorkild Jacobsen, and William A. Irwin (University of Chicago Press, , — also once issued by Penguin as Before Philosophy).
Then philosophy migrated from every direction to Athens itself, at the center, the wealthiest commercial power and the most famous democracy of the time [ note ]. Socrates, although uninterested in wealth himself, nevertheless was a creature of the marketplace, where there were always people to meet and where he could, in effect, bargain over definitions rather than over prices. Similarly, although Socrates avoided participation in democratic politics, it is hard to imagine his idiosyncratic individualism, and the uncompromising self-assertion of his defense speech, without either wealth or birth to justify his privileges, occurring in any other political context.
If a commercial democracy like Athens provided the social and intellectual context that fostered the development of philosophy, we might expect that philosophy would not occur in the kind of Greek city that was neither commercial nor democratic. As it happens, the great rival of Athens, Sparta, was just such a city. Sparta had a peculiar, oligarchic constitution, with two kings and a small number of enfranchised citizens.
Most of the subjects of the Spartan state had little or no political power, and many of them were helots, who were essentially held as slaves and could be killed by a Spartan citizen at any time for any reason — annual war was formally declared on the helots for just that purpose. The whole business of the Spartan citizenry was war. Unlike Athens, Sparta had no nearby seaport. It was not engaged in or interested in commerce. It had no resident alien population like Athens — there was no reason for foreigners of any sort to come to Sparta.
Spartan citizens were allowed to possess little money, and Spartan men were expected, officially, to eat all their meals at a common mess, where the food was legendarily bad — all to toughen them up. Spartans had so little to say that the term “Laconic,” from Laconia, the environs of Sparta, is still used to mean “of few words” — as “Spartan” itself is still used to mean simple and ascetic.
While this gave Sparta the best army in Greece, regarded by all as next to invincible, and helped Sparta defeat Athens in the Peloponnesian War , we do not find at Sparta any of the accoutrements otherwise normally associated with Classical Greek civilization:
